Symptoms of Dehydration
Is This Lady REALLY ONLY 25???!!!
OK, OK, JUST KIDDING! However, symptoms of dehydration do include skin wrinkling and showing age more quickly. Statistically, 75% of Americans are "chronically dehydrated". In anyone's language, that's HUGE. Living in the tropics means you and your family are at higher risk of chronic dehydration than usual.
So, how much water should we drink?
Eight glasses a day is the old standby, but if you ask people working in the natural health field, the answer is more...much more. 1 litre per 25kg bodyweight, per day, is recommended. For the average person that's 3 litres every day.
Living in the tropics, you need more. And if you do physical work, or exercise that makes you sweat, then even MORE is needed.
But before you give up and continue to live with symptoms of dehydration, read on for a bit.
Think about it. Our body is designed for balance. If we don't keep it balanced with the right amount of water, "stuff happens". Symptoms of dehydration can be severe. Thirst can be the least of your problems!

Drink Enough to Stay Balanced
Nausea, chills, clammy skin, increased heart rate, muscle pain, reduced sweating, dizziness, headache, shortness of breath, dry mouth, fatigue, hallucinations, fainting, and even loss of consciousness can be the result. Dehydration affects your thinking, concentration, renal (kidney) function, blood circulation, and causes muscle weakness.
If You're Dehydrated, You Don't Perform at Your Best.

Thirst is Not Alway the First Sign!
Many people mistake thirst for hunger, and grab a snack. Your body continues to misread the symptoms of dehydration, and you think you feel hungry all the time. This creates weight problems, diabetes, and tiredness from blood sugar imbalance. Because of this, often people have very little thirst signals, particularly elderly folk. You may have to re-program your "thirst-detector". Do you ever feel starving, eat, and then an hour later you're hungry again? Chances are, it's a symptom of dehydration. You're actually thirsty.

You Need Water!
Chronic Dehydration
What's the Difference?

Your kidneys are in charge of filtering the liquid through your body, and they need water. They are designed that way! Drinking litres of softdrink, tea or coffee may quench your thirst, but it won't hydrate your body. Your kidneys will filter the liquid, but it won't be used effectively by your body. When the kidneys go without water, toxins - one of the symptoms of dehydration - begin to build. The kidneys get stressed, and that's when your problems begin. All the muscles begin to tighten from the kidneys down both legs at the back (ever had tight calf muscles?) and up your shoulders and neck, causing tightness and tension. The muscles of the neck tighten and restrict the bloodflow to the head, which creates fuzzy thinking, tiredness, poor concentration, memory problems, and more.
Don't make the mistake of drinking coffee or cola when you feel like this! Both are diuretics.
Your body needs water. Clean, clear, water.
Sinus problems begin. You may find yourself breathing through your mouth rather than your nose to counteract the narrowed nasal passages. At this point allergies can be triggered. Urine becomes very dark and concentrated in both colour and smell. It should be pale yellow or clear. Bowel problems can begin. How quickly you can reverse chronic dehydration depends on the level of dehydration your body has reached, of course. Water, obviously, is the key part of the solution, but for chronic dehydration some electrolyte drinks will help quickly replace the nutrients that have been lost.
Athletes, the elderly, and young children at greater risk of dehydration.
Instill healthy habits in your children NOW. Train your kids to carry water bottles - and use them! "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
But it's not just the quantity of water that matters, it's the QUALITY.
We spend money buying quality food.

We keep our homes clean and hygienic.

Why would we drink dirty water?
Just because it LOOKS clean, doesn't mean it is...
